With 49 cycling days through 14 states, 9 Shabbatot, and 3 service days, the Hazon Cross-USA Ride offers a truly unique and transformative experience. Meet people from small Jewish communities and inspire others through Hazon’s environmental work and advocacy. Choose your own cycling adventure! Join us for any segment, from one day to a full or half country, and everything in between.
The Cross-USA Ride will visit small farms, speak with transportation alternative advocacy groups, learn about sustainability, and learn about different Jewish communities across the country. Some highlights include Rabbi Morris Allen, founder of Magen Tzedek, our very own CSA farmer Mike Jacobs who runs Easy Bean Farm outside of Minneapolis, and Rabbi Paula Winnig who will speak about Jewish journeys and local and sustainable food in Indianapolis.

Bean of Affliction: Chocolate, Child Labor,
and Fair Trade

With Ilana Schatz, intro by Rabbi Marc Soloway. “The Dark Side of Chocolate” depicts the abuse of child labor in the African cocoa fields. The evening includes a screening of this 45-minute documentary, discussion, Jewish text study, and chocolate tasting with Ilana Schatz, the founding director of Fair Trade Judaica. Fair Trade chocolate will be available for purchase.

Mini Grants Now Open in Colorado
How do you plan to make a healthier and more sustainable Colorado? Apply for a 2013-2014 mini grant! The Purpose of this grant opportunity is to inspire and grow a range of programs in the Denver/Boulder area that utilize Jewish food, outdoor, and environmental education. To qualify, every project must help to create healthier and more sustainable communities in the Colorado Jewish community and individual Jewish lives. This year, grants will be awarded for $1000-$4000 dollars.
Food Justice Fellowship Open in Colorado
Hazon is seeking to hire an outstanding person in Denver or Boulder to fill the new position of Food Justice Fellow for 8 hours/week. The Food Justice Fellow will set the standard of how Hazon leads food justice education and programming in Colorado and will be responsible for engaging the Colorado Jewish community in addressing issues of food justice. We seek a passionate, knowledgeable individual who is versed in Jewish learning and has experience in social justice work.
Urban Adamah Poised to Build the Largest Urban Farm
in the Bay Area

Urban Adamah recently signed a contract to purchase undeveloped land for a new permanent farm site. The 2.2-acre property, at the corner of Harrison and 6th Streets in West Berkeley, abuts a restored creek and forest habitat with public parks, ball fields, and a bike path nearby. It is truly the ideal location for their work.
This year, Hazon has agreed that all of the proceeds raised by the Urban Adamah team in our Golden Gate Ride this past weekend will go to support the purchase of the new farm site in West Berkeley. Urban Adamah now has four months to raise the funds to close the deal. With your support, you can help them get there!
