Hazon Detroit is thrilled to support local Plastover arts installation at MOCAD.
A key part of Plastover here in Detroit, “At Our Table” is a multimedia arts installation at MOCAD, designed by local artist, Olivia Guterson. It is a reimagining of a Passover table constructed from locally sourced, discarded single-use plastics, illuminating the concept of convenience, throwaway culture, and environmental responsibility during a holiday centered on the joy and the sacrifices necessary in finding our own personal liberation.
Guterson is an interdisciplinary artist, born in Gallup, New Mexico, based in Detroit. She is deeply influenced by the textures, landscapes, and patterns of her upbringing in the Southwest, as well as her Jewish and African heritage. She works predominantly in black and white for its stability, intensity, and honesty while incorporating ancestral patterns and narratives.
Socially distanced, masked visitors are invited to tour the installation on MOCAD’s outdoor lawn, accessed at the rear of the parking lot, during special Plastover hours (Sun-Wed 11am-5pm, Thur-Sat 9am-5pm) throughout the three week run. Entrance to “At Our Table” is free of charge, with donations accepted inside MOCAD during its operating hours.
Visitors are encouraged to bring any single-use plastics that they wish to discard to a sustainable collection site on the grounds of the installation. Hazon Detroit will collect all discarded plastic and upcycle it into repurposed materials for future projects.
