Bike Challenge

We did it!! This past May, my partner made a suggestion, “Let’s try to put more miles on our bikes than we do our cars between Memorial Day and Labor Day this year.” To some, this may seem like an impossible task, but when we bought our home a few years ago, we chose a place with a bike path in the back yard. I am an environmental educator, and our family values reflect a constant consideration of how our actions affect the other species around us. Back to the challenge… As I considered the reality of this situation, I made a pros and cons list to see if this could actually work. First, we both work from home, so our daily commute consists of walking upstairs to our office. If I have meetings, they are generally within a 5-6 mile radius from my home. Both pros for making this a reality. I love my bike, my partner got it for me as a birthday/Chanukkah present a few years ago. [New York Ride] First Participant Email

As the New York Ride is just 5 weeks away, we are gearing up for a fantastic weekend. You should have recieved your Ride Guide in the mail last week. Make sure to check out the updated route maps on our website, and take a look at all of the shiny fundraising incentives we have available, including our awesome jersey! We’ve also just updated the transportation information page with lots of info on how you and your bike will make your way to the ride, and a packing list! [New York Ride] 6th Participant Email

Can you believe it’s just eight weeks to the ride? We’re getting very excited. Jerseys are printing (will you earn one? There are lots of fundraising tips below to help you reach $1,800 and beyond), the route is being tested (we hear it’s stunningly beautiful) and Shabbat programming is underway. Highlights include a Young Jewish Farmer’s Panel, our 2nd annual Book Club on White Bread (sponsor yourself $180 and we’ll send you a copy for free!),Farm Bill 101, night hikes, mikva in the lake, cooking demos and more. We’ve just increased registration prices, but as registered participants you can give your friends and family the code “summer” to bring their registration fee back to the June registration fees (it will take $75 off). We hope to see many of you at Bike to the Beach this Sunday! Bring your friends and family — it’s a great way to introduce people to Hazon. The ride is free; lunch is $10 but free if you’re signed up for the New York Ride.Register and get more information here. We hope you had a great Passover and are beginning to think more seriously about your training for the New York Ride, which is just over four months away! This email contains helpful tips for getting your riding season off on the right pedal, as well as important tips for starting your fundraising. You’ve made an amazing commitment to yourself and to the world by participating in this ride, both in the personal challenge you’ve set and in the money you’re raising to support Hazon’s mission of creating healthier and more sustainable communities in the Jewish world and beyond.
