Thanks for a great weekend! We hope you made it home safe and sound.  We had a great time with you this weekend, and truly hope that the sessions, people, food and community from this weekend will continue to inspire you through the weeks and months ahead.  While it’s still fresh in your mind, please take a few moments tonight or tomorrow to fill out our Food Conference Survey. Hazon Food Conference The Food Conference is just 4 days away! Please read this email carefully for important packing reminders and a sneak peak at the revised schedule. We are completely sold out and are looking forward to a cozy weekend with all of you! If you are not coming and haven’t let us know, please be in touch with Wendy Levine as soon as possible, as we have a long list of folks who would really like to join us for the weekend. [Food Conference] Schedule / Carpools / Important Info

Full Food Conference Schedule is Online! We’ve got an amazing weekend planned and we’re looking forward to sharing it with you. Please read this email fully as it contains a lot of information about your stay at the Food Conference. Visit the Food Conference home page to download the schedule! Help needed! We need 1-2 people with vehicles to help us out by picking up donated products from Fizzy Lizzy and/or Straus Creamery before the conference.  Please contact Renna Khuner-Haber at renna@hazon.org or 415-397-7020 if you can help. Weather Forecast The weather in Davis has been cooler than usual this year, but that still means that we’re expecting highs in the 80s and 90s during the conference. We have a number of creative ways to keep you cool, including making a fan at the Thursday night DIY Extravanza from recycled materials. Please plan to bring a water bottle, hat & sunscreen. Bikes and the Food Conference You are encouraged to bring your bike to the Food Conference. Biking is a great way to quickly navigate the campus, enjoy Davis surroundings, and participate in organized group rides during the Conference itself. Got Wheels? Ride-Share Board & Bikes at the Food Conference

It just keeps getting better… We’re just five weeks away and plans are underway for an outstanding conference. The Planning Team met this week to discuss all aspects of Jewish Life at the conference, including our first ever Food Conference Havdallah outdoors and many options for Shabbat services. We hope that there will be something for everyone. We’ve added a number of phenomenal presenters/sessions to our line-up recently, including: Joel Berg, NYC Coalition Against Hunger Shana Starobin, AJWS Morris Panitz, Kayam Jewish Community Garden Fellow Maya Shtreat-Klein, Pediatric Neurologist We’ve also added a hands-on kosher shechita demonstration with Shochet Naftali Hanau on Friday, August 19. Conference participants will have the chance to witness and participate in the kosher slaughter of three chickens, as well as learn about the laws of shechita. Finally, the kids programming is over the top. This is a great place to be if you’re a kid! If you’ve got children, consider bringing them along — and if you’ve got friends with kids, tell them this is the place to be! Check out our updated kids programming, led by the Teva Learning Center and fellows from the first Urban Adamah cohort. (more…)

Hazon Food Conference – Just 7 weeks away!

Plans underway for an outstanding conference! Welcome to a community of inspiration, innovation, and change convening at Hazon’s annual Food Conference- August 18-21st at UC Davis. As we get closer to the actual event we hope that you are all looking forward to a weekend that will feature consciously-prepared kosher food, learning, and countless connections as we gather to feed our minds and bodies. Hazon staff and the volunteer Planning Team members have been hard at work crafting an innovative program and planning for a wonderful, community-filled Shabbat. Here’s a taste of what’s on the menu: Hazon’s Food Conference Beit Midrash, with community-wide Jewish learning accessible to people of all backgrounds. DIY Extravaganza: An Endurance Event for Do-It-Yourself Enthusiasts! A Thursday night extravaganza, with hands-on container gardening, cooking with seaweed, ginger beer brewing and more!
