Shabbat “Learn and Lunch” with Kehilat Hadar

Jul 29, 2017 - 9:30 am - 1:30 pm

Solomon Schechter School of Manhattan, New York, New York

Elan Margulies, Director of Teva, will join Kehilat Hadar on the Upper West Side of NYC for Shabbat and will teach a shiur entitled ‘A Person is a Tree of the Field’: Trees and Jewish Thought. From the blessing “Borei P’ri Ha Etz,” (creator of the fruit of the tree) to Tu B’shevat, the New Year of Trees, to ancient cities under siege, we’ll explore what the Torah, Talmud, and midrash have to say about trees and our relationship to them as Jews.

Shabbat morning services start at 9:30 AM, followed by kiddush, learning, and then a catered vegetarian lunch for those who register in advance ($10 for adults, $6 for kids). Learning will begin at approximately 12:30 PM and is open to all.

This program is subsidized in part by a grant from Hazon, in recognition of the Kehilat Hadar cycling team’s participation in the 2016 NY Ride & Retreat.
