Teens Teach the Teachers

Jan 11, 2021 - 7:30 pm EST - 8:30 pm EST

Presented by the Jewish Youth Climate Movement

As a token of thanks for the endless teachings and wisdom imparted on us by our own rabbis and educators as students, the teen leaders of Hazon’s Jewish Youth Climate Movement (JYCM) invite our religious scholars for an opportunity to mix up our usual community learning structure with a “teens teach the teachers” event.

Join our youth-led study, with Jewish leaders from across the country, on our Jewish relationship to the climate crisis and leveraging Jewish values to organize our communities for climate action.

We’ll guide you through a creative text study of our own design with a framework for re-envisioning synagogues, schools, organizations (and any other community you represent) relationship to land-based Judaism during this climate crisis we must work collectively to mitigate. Before the Big Bold Jewish Climate Fest around Tu B’Shvat 2021, we’ll culminate with youth activists sharing strategies, devised from our personal organizing experiences, for planning community-wide learnings, conversations, events, and actions that center young people.

This training is a program of JYCM’s Storytelling Campaign, our strategy designed to shape the broader Jewish community’s understanding of our stake in the climate crisis, reframe our climate activism around a widely circulated Jewish climate narrative, and empower young Jews to lead our communities through stories and action. This event will couple the strengths of rabbinic thought leadership—bringing people together to study texts and share stories as a means of analyzing our current moment and effectively engaging with the challenges of our world—with the energetic insights and social justice staying power of young people changing our community for the better.
